English Grammar in Use Supplementary Exercises: Book Review

An amazed black girl holding a pencil and looking at the "English Grammar in use Supplementary Exercises" book cover.

We won’t go into much detail. Because this isn’t the kind of book that gets reviewed.

This book, which has been newly updated for 2019, complements the fifth edition of “English Grammar in Use” by offering more practice activities for students to complete. There are no explanations offered; you only receive exercises here.

The workouts are good. They appear to be more contextualized than in the main book.
Therefore, emails, conversations, and articles seem to be their most likely formats. That’s a fantastic option for a supplement book that delves further than a core textbook for the classroom. You can use them as models for writing or speaking practice. Some exercises ask you to use your own ideas. For these, you can check the Example answers in the Key.
Since this is a shorter book, units are combined. But the exercises in the book correspond to the units in the full book. The groups are reasonable and evident. Even though these aren’t necessarily chronological (it begins with five pages of exercises covering units 1-4 and 19 and 25).
In contrast to the main book, we should also point out that this one is printed on matte paper in black and white. It is hence substantially less expensive.

The last edition of English Grammar in Use Book Supplementary Exercises

English Grammar in Use Supplementary Exercises provides great review, consolidation, and extension opportunities. It is appropriate for both in-class and independent study.

The most recent version features a broad range of exercise types. Many of which are based on various kinds of texts for extra interest. It also offers a contrastive practice of the English grammar areas taught in English Grammar in Use Third Edition.
Additionally, it features a brand-new design and appealing illustrations.
